Criteria For Employment:
Job Location: Halifax, West End, very close to Halifax Shopping Centre, off Mumford Road, (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada).
Please note: Applicants MUST BE CURRENTLY LIVING IN THE HALIFAX/HRM area of NS Canada , and be within a 20 minute drive/travel distance.
Applicants MUST HAVE a Canadian Social Insurance Number (S.I.N.) to be able to be hired for any position.
All positions are onsite only . We do not offer any remote positions.
This work location is a smoke free and a scent-free environment. Please ensure that you are able to arrive at this work location without the smell of smoke or other scents on your person. This includes your interview, orientation, and all times while on the job.
All hired staff must be able and willing to work weekends and must be able and willing to work holiday shifts, as needed and determined by the employer . Holidays include the following 5 Statutory Holidays (as determined by the employer’s funders) are paid time and a half. These are:
New Year’s Day.
Good Friday
Canada Day
Labour Day
Christmas Day
All hired staff also must be able and willing to work other non-Statutory holidays , such as Thanksgiving, Remembrance Day, and other civic holidays.
As previously stated elsewhere, all hired staff MUST BE
comfortable in assisting the employer with personal hygiene and cleanliness in all washroom related needs, including wiping front and back.
Shifts and Times:
Generally, the shifts are short (2 – 4 hours in length) and sometimes there is an opportunity to work two or more shifts in a day, depending on your availability and willingness.
The more shifts you can fill, the more take home pay you will receive!!!
Note: Shifts may sometimes end a little earlier or run a bit later than scheduled, depending on the employer’s daily needs.
Here are the “typical times” for all shifts:
Mornings: Start time: 6:30am and can run until 11am.
Midday: – Time will likely vary somewhat, depending on the employer’s needs and daily events. Midday shifts will average 2 to 4 hours.
Late evening/Bedtime: Usually 2 – 3 hours, varying from 8pm – 11pm.
THERE ARE NO OVERNIGHT OR LIVE-IN POSITIONS.
Things Applicants should know when applying:
A verifiable reference from an employer, or a professional in good standing, or a current valid police background check that includes a vulnerable sector check, within the last 12 months, may be requested at any time.
The signing of a Confidentiality Agreement may be requested at any time. If not signed, there is an automatic good faith agreement that a Confidentiality Agreement is in effect and is binding by accepting any job with me.
All positions with me are non-medical in nature. Nonetheless, basic First Aid and CPR would be considered assets.
You MUST HAVE excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Preference will be given to applicants with no experience but have a willingness to learn and have an easy-going, flexible manner.
Preference will be given to applicants who is willing to make this job a high employment priority and prioritize the needs of the employer.
If hired, you will work for a highly intelligent, highly motivated, physically disabled woman, who requires physical assistance with daily living activities.

This position is great for people who enjoy working one-to-one, want to develop meaningful skills and help build a culture and tradition of independent living.
Initial interviews/meetings may be conducted in person or online using a video chat platform, usually Zoom, depending on mutual preferences and current public health conditions. If you are unable to use Zoom, please let me know and I will attempt to make alternate arrangements.
Pay Information:
Pay periods are semi-monthly, occurring on the 3rd and 18th of each month. (The pay on the 18th covers the period from the 1st to the 15th of the month [inclusive]. The pay on the 3rd covers the period from the 16th to the end of the month [inclusive].)
Employees are paid by e-transfer and receive a detailed pay statement of hours and all deductions for each pay period.
Start Date: As soon as the employer (who is an individual with a physical disability) and the successful candidate agree to a start date.
Duly Note:
Note #1: As orientation, new staff will be ask ed to participate in an average of 3 – 5 short “shadow shifts,” depending on how quickly you learn, plus the comfort level between you and the employer. Because of funding restrictions, these shadow shifts are unpaid.
Note #2: Again because of funding restrictions, staff need to be willing to pay their own bus fare when accompanying, (traveling with) the employer. Supplied funding is strictly for staff wages.
Note #3: Because of personal philosophy of the employer, terms such as: care, home care, care giver, and such are never used in this workplace. My attitude is that I merely require physical assistance. I do not need to be “cared for” or “looked after.” The difference in terminology is one of respect and attitude.
